Birthing Drums at Lammas

Co-founders of Cressbrook Dale Estate Rachel, Angela and Mog journeyed to Lammas eco-village in Wales for a brilliant Drum Birthing Workshop with Hoppi Wimbush (far left). We were super-inspired at what Hoppi and her partner Tao have co-created at Lammas since they acquired it 14 years ago. They are living proof of how it is possible for mankind to live in harmony with Nature, as well as teach others how to do it.

What was just fields of grass when they arrived is now a food forest of fruit trees, blackcurrant and other bushes, grape vines, squash and a myriad of other vegetables, plus herbs and an abundance of shrubbery. The valley is alive with birdsong.

The first building you see upon arrival is the main meeting centre, created with a natural living roof which makes it almost invisible.

The Earth Centre is a separate building where our workshop was held. It is built into the side of the slope so from the outside looks tiny but it opens out into panoramic views across the land. There’s also a cleverly hidden lower level storage area for all the equipment, tables etc.. Underneath the central circle are embedded crystals creating a torus field of energy. It is built to sacred geometry proportions and the acoustics are superb.

There were also lots of cleverly and lovingly created semi-permanent structures ~ including a very sweet smelling Dry Compost Toilet! (above right)

Hoppi and Tao co-created Lammas under the Welsh ‘One Planet’ scheme where the ‘Authorities’ allow landowners to live and work their smallholdings ~ in the way that all People did, in the days before the Industrial Revolution and draconian Planning Laws herded The People into housing estates and cities, working for Big Corporate and Government organisations.

Hoppi and Tao also shared with us that there was massive resistance to their project from the local villagers when they first arrived. However they held the Vision and eventually the local resistance died away. The local people are now proud of what has been created at Lammas.
